There’s a good job in here. Let’s make it clearer.
Magentic builds AI workers for procurement at large manufacturers. Its first growth marketer would work with the founders on customer research, narrative, acquisition experiments, analytics and automation, alongside sales and product.
The posting asks for early-stage enterprise B2B experience, execution, analytical thinking and storytelling. It publishes compensation and assesses prior work and a role task.
Research, positioning and campaigns can belong together. Candidates need to know what comes first and who will help. “Hands-on” leaves quite a lot open.
Magentic publishes a customer case covering a pilot and wider deployment. I’d examine it before deciding what proof to create.

Six questions before touching the advertisement
The company may have answers internally. Here’s what I’d ask.
| Question for the founder | What the answer changes |
| Which business problem needs progress first? | Whether the first assignment is buyer understanding, message and proof, campaigns, or a focused combination. |
| Who designs, builds pages, sets up tools and handles specialist production? | What the marketer makes themselves and what they commission or brief. |
| What research, customer access, campaigns and sales material already exist? | What they can use, what needs checking and what starts from scratch. |
| What response and buying-cycle data do we have? | The tests worth running and the progress we can reasonably expect to observe. |
| Who decides the message, spending and priorities when requests compete? | How the marketer works with the founder and sales. |
| Which decisions must they make independently? | The experience and judgment the role needs. |
If suitable buyers are talking to sales but struggling to understand or believe the value, I’d look for someone strong in research, positioning, writing and proof.
If those conversations work but too few suitable buyers enter them, I’d put audience access and campaign delivery first.
If both are uncertain, choose one audience and use case, then plan a test that helps separate the two problems.
The proposed job
For this rewrite, assume the first priority is clearer messaging and proof, with customer access and funded production support. These are proposed conditions for the role, not findings about Magentic.
“Founding B2B Marketer” describes this version. “Growth” could still work; the responsibilities need to explain the job either way.

Founding B2B Marketer

Compensation and location reflect the posting at review.
Why we’re hiring
We build AI workers for procurement teams at large manufacturers. We want suitable buyers to understand where we can help, examine the evidence and take the next step with us.
Your first assignment is to strengthen the message and proof for a priority buyer and use case. You’ll then help get that work in front of the right people and learn from the response.
What you’ll do
- Understand the buying decision. Review existing work, join customer and sales conversations, and investigate what makes buyers move forward, hesitate or choose an alternative.
- Recommend the message and proof. Work with founders, sales and product to explain the value and decide what needs demonstrating.
- Make the core marketing work. Write website and campaign copy, develop sales material and brief the specialists supporting delivery.
- Run a focused campaign. Recommend its audience, route, budget and purpose; review who responds and what happens next.
- Shape the next priorities. Explain what you would expand, change or stop, and why.
The support we’ll agree before hiring
Customer and sales access, product expertise, timely founder decisions, and a budget beyond salary. We’ll specify the design, implementation and specialist help available.
A full redesign, a large content programme and several acquisition channels won’t all become your first assignment. We’ll choose the work together.
What good work looks like
Sound recommendations, marketing that gets used, suitable buyers understanding and trusting the message, and relevant conversations progressing. We’ll agree measures that reflect our starting position and buying cycle.
What to bring
Experience turning customer understanding into practical marketing in an early-stage enterprise B2B company. Show us something you helped take from problem to delivery and review. Tell us what you personally did, the constraints, and what you learned.
Now assess the person against that job
| What I’d explore | What I’d ask to see |
| Customer judgment | A recommendation changed by customer or sales evidence. What did people say, how did you interpret it, and what else might explain it? |
| Positioning and writing | A page, campaign or sales asset. Who was it for, what did it promise, what supported that promise, and which parts did you write? |
| Delivery | A project you took through production and launch. Who helped, what got difficult, and which decisions were yours? |
| Learning from results | A response that challenged your plan. What did you change, and what remained unanswered? |
What makes an answer convincing?
Suppose a candidate says, “Customers wanted something simpler, so we rewrote the homepage.” I’d ask what was confusing, which customers said so, and how that changed the page. A strong answer lets me follow the decision, see what the candidate personally did, and understand what they learned after the change.
For an interview discussion, provide anonymised buyer objections, a sales summary and an existing page. Ask: What would you investigate first? What would change your recommendation? What would you defer? What help would you need? What would the first useful review tell us?
Plenty to discuss, without requesting an unpaid strategy.
The founder still needs to settle the priority, production budget and people, access, decision authority, seniority and progress measures. Those answers shape the advertisement, the interview and the work that follows the hire.
