The company needs marketing to accomplish something specific. We work out what that is, what kind of person it calls for, and what will make the job realistic. Then I help assess the fit and support you both as the work starts.
The practical work
How the engagement works
Review the commercial situation, what customers tell you, existing marketing, and where the founder needs help. Use that to define a realistic role and what selection should test.
Bring marketing judgment to the hiring decision. Work through the starting priorities, resources, access, and expectations with the founder and appointed marketer.
Work on the research, message or campaign we’ve chosen. Review the response together and deal with the questions that come up. Before I finish, we make sure the marketer knows what they’re taking forward.
A starting point they can use
Your customer knowledge, successful work, and informed judgment are useful starting material. The incoming marketer should bring their own perspective too.
We can develop positioning, messages, and initial priorities together. We make clear what the evidence supports, what we are assuming, and what still needs testing.
Start where you are
We check the relevant work and expectations, then use what is already sound. If the role is clear, we move on to candidate assessment, preparation, or support after the start.
I write. Core website, sales and campaign copy are a strong part of my contribution, alongside positioning and campaign direction. I also brief specialists and review their work. We agree which pieces I’ll take on and which your marketer will lead.
We look at interviews, sales calls, objections, reviews, behaviour and results to understand why people choose you. I’m interested in the practical job and what it means personally: what someone hopes for, worries about or wants to be able to do. We use that understanding to shape the message, proof and experience, then check how people respond.
If you need someone to take responsibility for marketing during the gap, Interim Marketing Lead can sit alongside the first-hire engagement. We agree the priorities, commitment, and eventual handover.
You’ll know what I’m doing, where you’re needed, how long the support lasts and what it costs. We also agree what happens if the hiring date moves. The support after your marketer joins belongs in that conversation from the start.
Your team or suppliers handle design, implementation, and campaign setup. I can help select specialists, brief them, and review work. Daily social publishing and general production coordination are not my core role.
